Floral Design Immersions - The Artful Designer
These floral design intensives are meant to immerse and inspire floral enthusiasts of all levels to look more closely, more intently, at the intricacies of the natural world and to learn ways in which one might integrate this beauty into their everyday lives. Whether you are wanting to develop your floral passion to benefit friends and family or as a professional business, these fast-paced, two-day intensives will give you a big head-start, new perspective, and great insight into the possibilities of Flowers as Art. Together we will contemplate, dissect and reinvent our individual ideas of beauty and help you to hone and develop your own personal style.
Both of these immersions will include the following: an introduction to what it is to have a thriving flower business (now in our 28th year); an overview of seasonal plant materials & supplies; discussion & demonstration to help you understand the principles and foundation of good design; a garden tour of our 6-acre organic flower farm; design instruction, demonstration & guidance for creating beautiful floral compositions of various styles including: seasonal centerpieces, hand-tied bouquets, floral crowns and compotes, and then moving gradually, wildly, into the abstract. From Saturday morning to Sunday afternoon we will roll up our shirtsleeves and get our hands dirty on this highly focused journey into everything floral.
In this class we will:
Day 1: Walk the farm discovering unique plant materials. Learn tools & materials of the trade. Learn what it takes to create a good foundation for your floral arrangements. Learn about texture, balance & color. Design lush floral centerpieces, hand-tied bouquets & floral crowns.
Day 2: Design graceful Long & Low floral centerpieces. Learn the difference between floral foam, chicken wire, tape grids & frogs. Design romantic textural arrangements in Pedestal Vases (Compotes). Design larger architectural arrangements in the abstract using contemporary glass.
Optional - Day 3: (Monday following each class) Tour of the San Francisco Flower Market - learn about buying, relationship building, quality control, how to acquire a market badge, supplies, floral enhancements, and more.……additional charge of $250.
Each day there will be discussion, demonstration and design time. All tools, plant materials and florals are provided.
